Just the right amount of heat...

We dedicate a lot of grow space to peppers. We usually grow at least three varieties of bell pepper; Chocolate was a favorite of 2025. The majority of the space are dedicated to added some spice to our lives. We will be returning with the same 5 varieties of jalapenos (Craig’s Giant, Lemon Spice, Pumpkin Spice, Orange Spice, and Brown) that we grew well. We harvested over 30 pounds in 2025. The colors make for more beautiful canned peppers as well as brighten our spice mixes when we dry them. The heat spectrum runs from mild to hot jalapeños so the mix of all five lands the whole into that sweet spot of a little zip without burning you up.
We will be growing some hotter varieties in 2026 to be used in our spice mixes, but the great mistake of 2023 (growing 3 of the hottest peppers in the world) will not be repeated. No one wanted to buy them. I didn’t want to eat them, and despite wearing gloves every time I touched them, I got burnt up for two days after touching the string I used to air dry them on bare handed. They are still hanging in the basement to ward off evil spirits and short memory spans.
A gentle habanero or possibly scotch bonnets will be grown next year, but we’ll only put them out on the veggie stand for sale if they are not hot enough to be used as weapons.
Let us know if you are looking for any special varieties of pepper. We’re almost always willing to try a new plant.
